I grew up in Indiana and as a kid, if you could find me, I was probably out trekking in the woods, adventuring. The same holds true today as I try to take every opportunity I can to explore. I came across photography by accident in college and I fell in love with the medium. After living in the Midwest and California, I now call Brooklyn my home. I shoot locally and travel all over the world on assignments, documenting events, people, stories and places. My eye has been drawn to seek the magical in the mundane -the stuff that makes our lives worth every breath- and to capture the fleeting light that fills us with awe, wonder, love and inspiration. Thanks for taking a look!

She is drawn to environmental and lifestyle portraiture and still life photography incorporating common threads of texture, airy spaces and clean lines. Conscious of even the subtlest shifts in environments, attitudes, and light, her photographic sensibility creates raw, personal images that evoke a range of emotions.
Mel's natural attention to detail, along with the ebb and flow of her process, leads to the effortless capturing of a subject's true essence. Her ability to intuitively anticipate and read a person's sentiment is apparent while she's shooting and is reflected beautifully in her photos.
